With a solid main cast, an often-fascinating real-life story being scripted by multiple Oscar-nominee Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), and some impressive technical talent such as Oscar-winning director of photography Anthony Dod Mantle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours), Howard has assembled quite the capable crew. One of the most promising is a project undertaken by Ron Howard that will look at the legendary 1978 Formula One World Championship, in which Niki Lauda suffered a heavy, fiery crash at the Nürburgring only to come back and challenge James Hunt for the title.

According to the official synopsis : Set against the 1970′s golden age of Formula 1 racing, RUSH portrays the fast-paced and exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivalries the sport has ever witnessed – that of James Hunt (Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Brühl) and their illustrious Formula 1 racing teams, McLaren and Ferrari. A privileged, charismatic and handsome English playboy, Hunt could not be more different from his reserved and methodical opponent, Austrian born Lauda. RUSH follows their personal lives both on and off the track and charts their rivalry from its inception in Formula 3.

Chris Hemsworth (Thor) stars as James "The Shunt" Hunt in the upcoming Ron Howard directed biographical film about the iconic Formula 1 racing legend. The film will focus on the closely faught 1976 season with Niki Lauda.

Rush has released a first batch of on-set images, featuring Avengers star Chris Hemsworth as English racing driver James Hunt.

Having trimmed his flowing locks to a louche, shoulder-length cut, Hemsworth looks every inch the dapper English playboy in this ’70s set racing drama directed by Ron Howard.
